Iridology

From 'Wholistic Newsletter V':  Iridology and Peter Jackson-Main www.thenaturalcentre.com

PJM
Peter, first things first... thank you for taking the time to share your time, thoughts and tales with us ……

Q. There are many paths into understanding the deeper nature of ones health so why should people try Iridology, which remains a complete mystery to many?

The iris holds the keys to so many of our health questions. Not just the identification of specific health concerns, but also a whole “paradigm” of health and healing, is revealed by examination of the irides. This truly holistic health assessment technique can take you to a deep understanding of why you experience the problems that you do, and what you can do about it. It’s not just a question of putting a name to a disease, but to understanding why the disease is there, what it means to you, and how you can work with it.

Q. Wow! So just what sorts of information are you able to gain from an eye?

Firstly we look at the underlying organic causes of your health problems. We rarely get ill suddenly: usually things have been slowly getting out of balance over time. What eventually ends up as, say, a heart attack, is the final outcome of pressure felt for some considerable time. So the operation of the kidneys, the liver, and the digestive tract, etc., may be fundamental in contributing to this pressure. Then we can also get an idea of your “energetic” and emotional or psychological health, that may also be putting stress on you. These are definitely factors that need to be addressed in any healing program.

Q. Can you really see changes in people’s eyes over time though? What would be the shortest / standard time frame?

This is a controversial question in Iridology, and I myself do not put such emphasis on changes in the iris. There are some things that change, but very slowly, over years of time, not weeks or even months. Most of what we see in the iris is an expression of your Constitution: your inherited, genetic make-up, and will not change significantly.

Q. So ….. what types of people visit you??

All types. From people who are very sick, who have an urgent reason for getting as much information as they can to assist recovery, to people whose main interest is to understand their bodies and prevent the build-up of problems.

Q. Is there anyone who wouldn’t benefit from the treatment?

It sounds funny, but yes, people without an iris, or with significant iris damage. There is a condition called aniridia, which is absence of an iris. It’s a form of blindness – although in many cases blindness itself is not a contra-indication. Care also has to be taken if shining bright lights or flash photography in the eyes of a person with epilepsy. Apart from that, people with prejudices and closed minds are unlikely to benefit!

Q. What can one actually expect from their first visit? Please can you explain the course of consultation – how long does it take? How much does one pay??

This can vary depending on who you see, as iridologists work in different ways, especially if they also practise other modalities, which can influence what order they do things in, and what questions they ask. If you come and see me, I will usually take a full case history at some stage in the session, although I might well begin by photographing the iris and displaying the pictures on a computer screen for the client to see. I will also explain what they are looking at and point out the main features. However, the main emphasis is on practical advice. I like people to leave the session feeling empowered and positive about themselves. You also get a report sheet and copies of the pictures (usually digital, or printed by special arrangement). I charge £55 for a 60 minute session, or £80 for the full 90 minute assessment, although I am reviewing these prices very soon (so if any readers want to see me at the current prices, get in soon!).

Q. How often should one have a consultation?

This depends on why you went in the first place. For some, the first consultation and one follow-up is enough, however, if you have a specific health problem to work on, more follow-up sessions may be necessary. You should discuss this with your iridologist and get some idea of what they will suggest bearing in mind your specific condition. Follow-ups are usually linked to treatment plans, and these can vary from one therapeutic modality to another, as well as according to the condition being treated. Usually a follow up will be suggested with a two – four week time-frame. Many people do choose to return for a “check-up” now and again. This may well be a good idea, especially if they are finding that they have other health problems cropping up over time.

Q. So um… how did you choose to become involved in the world of Iridology? How long do you train for?

Like most of us, I became interested as a result of seeing an iridologist myself. I was at a loose end, career-wise, at the time, and my practitioner suggested I come and do some training with her, which I did. One thing led to another, as they say! But I was in training a long time before I started to practice. In those days (30 years ago) there really were not any formal training courses. I trained in a lot of different therapies before settling on Iridology, herbal medicine and what we call Natural Healing, which is all about diet and lifestyle.

Q. How long has Iridology been around for? Has the nature of it changed much with time??

In its modern form, it’s been around since the mid-nineteenth century. Since that time a lot of research has been done, and understanding has changed a lot, however the basics remain the same – the iris charts, for instance, that tell you where to find the various organs and systems of the body, though they are much more complex nowadays, conform to basically the same layout that was proposed from the early days. These days a lot of additional applications have been proposed, dealing with psychological, emotional and even spiritual levels of being, and of course, medical science has added new insights too. Many iridologists have been medical doctors, and although medicine itself doesn’t recognize Iridology in the UK, there are countries where it is taken very seriously.

Q. Have you had many success stories?

Yes! If I hadn’t I wouldn’t still be doing it! I thrive on seeing people make real changes in their lives and tackling their health problems effectively, using the information that I can give them. There have been many wonderful stories.

Q. Are there any times when you cannot gage any information from the eyes at all? For example, new born babies, children’s eyes etc ….

No. You can always get something. Maybe not that much from the very newly-born, as the iris is in fact not fully developed at birth. But very soon after, you can see things starting to appear very quickly. Peter, bless you! Thank you so very much for your time. Wishing you the world of success and how can people get to see you for an Iridology consult? I work in Cambridge (very short train-ride from London these days!), and in Greater Manchester.
