Sivananda yoga is international with its headquarters in Montreal, Canada. It's founder is the revered leader Swami Sivananda who left a legacy of some 300 books, his great disciple Swami Vishnu Devananda was responsible for establishing the world wode training centres.
Each class contains a similar format: - The Initial Relaxation - pranayama (harnessing energy through breath control): kapalabhati (the fire breath) and analoma viloma (the cleansing breath) - Surya Namaskar / The Sun Salutation - the warm up sequence synchronising body and breath with balanced postures to strengthen, lengthen and tone - The 12 basic Asanas / Postures: Sirhasana: the headstand Savangasana: the shoulderstand Halasana: the plough the fish Pachimotanasana: sitting forward bend the cobra Salabhasana: the locust Dharanasana: the bow the spinal twist standing forward bend Kakasana: the crow Trikonasana: the triangle - Final Relaxation www.sivananda.org This is the style of Yoga that my teaching is based upon.
